3 Best Places for a Black Hills Marriage Proposal

black hill wedding

Whether you’re a local or one of the many visitors who vacation in South Dakota every year, the Black Hills region is a magical place to ask someone to marry you. There are many picturesque settings that can make a stunning backdrop for one of the most important moments of your life. In fact, the Black Hills have so many beautiful, romantic places that it may be difficult to choose. Once you have obtained your Black Hills Gold engagement ring sets, peruse the following list to narrow down your choices or spark some new ideas.

1. Black Elk Peak

Formerly known as Harney Peak, Black Elk Peak is the highest point in South Dakota. From the summit, you can look out over the horizon and see three states other than South Dakota, assuming that the weather is clear. It’s quite a hike, but the view is worth it. The stone tower at the top is open to hikers and may be the perfect place to pop the question.

2. Roughlock Falls

Roughlock Falls is located in breathtaking Spearfish Canyon in the northern Black Hills. There are two miles of easy hiking trails around the waterfall that allow you to view it from various vantage points. It is also worth pointing out that there is more than one waterfall in Spearfish Canyon. Another that may be thematically appropriate is Bridal Veil Falls. However, staging your proposal here may be a little awkward as it is right next to the highway.

3. Crazy Horse Memorial

Mount Rushmore is not the only in situ stone sculpture in the Black Hills. If and when the Crazy Horse Memorial is completed, it will be the largest sculpture in the world. Twice a year, in June and September, the public has an opportunity to hike up Crazy Horse and view the sculpture from close up, actually standing atop the famed Lakota warrior’s outstretched arm. If you don’t mind a lot of people around to witness your proposal, this is a very memorable place to do it.

Though not technically part of the Black Hills, the eerily beautiful Badlands also make a dramatic spot for a proposal.
