Though most people don’t want to admit it, a weight loss journey isn’t always just for health reasons. In many cases, people want to lose weight so that they can look better and there’s nothing wrong with that. If you’ve packed on a lot of weight and you’re not feeling great about the way you look, consider these four tips to help you get to your best self.

1. Exercise
Find exercises that you actually enjoy doing. If you’re a lover of dance, do a few dance workouts. If you love to swim, head over to the local gym and do a few laps every morning. If you want to build a strong body, go to the gym and lift heavy weights.

2. Diet
Your diet is the main component you’ll want to consider. If you’re constantly eating junk food, it’ll be hard to lose the weight at an effective rate. Focus on whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains. Consume lean meats and drink tons of water.

3. Discipline
There will be times when you’re not motivated, but you need to perform anyway. It’s easier to head to the fast food restaurant and grab a burger than it is to stand in the kitchen and make a salad. Avoid the temptation to slack off. If anything, keep reminders around you that help you see your goal and continue. If you’re going for an early-morning jog, throw on one of your beast hoodies to remind yourself of how much you’ll demolish the workout and remain disciplined.

4. Self-Care
When you’re on a weight loss journey, don’t forget that it is a journey. Stay in it for the long haul. While you will lose the weight, you also need to maintain the weight loss. This presents a new level of commitment. Don’t forget to care and love yourself through it all. Do things you love. Purchase clothes at your current size that make you feel good. Get a massage after a grueling week of workouts. Go to bed early after a long day. Listen to music to get yourself excited before your workout. Be intentional about your self-care ritual and it’ll reflect in the way you feel.
