The men who are fighting prostate cancer are twice as likely to die from the disease if they are obese, according to a new study.
Michel Pollak one of the oncologists at the University of McGill with Harvard University conducted the study stated, "If we could say that detectives have a serious suspicion"
The study found that obese men suffering from prostate cancer are twice as likely to die as men who carry a healthy weight. High levels of insulin (which is linked to obesity) are related to the chances of dying in patients with cancer.
This new study links prostate cancer to obesity is not only important for confirming the link between these factors, but also speaks of the possibility of a new line of studies regarding the treatment of prostate cancer.
The relationship between insulin secretion and the risk of dying from prostate cancer leads to more research to develop strategies to prevent and treat this cancer.
Dr. Pollak said: "The results should inspire more men to eat healthy and exercise more."
